THE SHORT ANSWER

Solar panels are long-life assets commonly sold with lengthy product and performance warranties. They normally continue producing beyond the headline warranty period, but output gradually degrades and other components may need attention sooner.

Answer reviewed: September 2026UK-focused guidanceProperty-specific design still matters

Performance changes gradually

PV modules are expected to lose a small amount of output over time. Performance warranties describe an allowed degradation path rather than promising identical output forever.

The inverter is separate

Inverters and batteries have their own lifecycles and warranties. Budgeting should consider the whole system, not only the panels.

Roof life matters too

If the roof is approaching major repair or replacement, deal with that in the project plan so panels do not need unnecessary removal and refitting.

Keep your documents

Retain warranties, commissioning information, serial numbers, monitoring access and installation certificates for future maintenance or property sale.

HOW WE HANDLE THE DETAIL

HEY Solar keeps technical and financial claims tied to the assumptions that make them true. Guidance is reviewed against authoritative UK sources and property-specific decisions belong in a survey and design.
